The humble kitchen…

What an exciting year 2012 has been. We’ve been reflecting on the highlights – and there’s been a few! We’ve also been thinking about the humble kitchen and marvelling at how it has changed over the years.

Now the epicentre of most homes and a hub of activity, the modern day kitchen is almost unrecognisable from times gone by. The technical advances of the 19th & 20th Century have seen kitchens transformed from open fire cooking to fully functioning rooms with state of the art appliances made to the highest of standards. Nowadays they are fuelled by gas or electricity and heat up at the flick of a switch!

We’re now fully equipped with gadgets and devices to make our lives easier, the modern day kitchen has it all, boiling water taps, refrigerators, microwaves and extractor units. Furthermore, we can now choose how our kitchens look and feel – we can add texture, depth and details to the design and marry up colours and materials to create interest. (It’s a far cry from the surroundings that our prehistoric cousins prepared their dinner in!).

We’ve certainly evolved and we’re looking forward to seeing what 2013 has in store for the humble kitchen!
