New Year…New Kitchen?
If you’re looking to make the most out of your home then a new kitchen could certainly serve you well. Jeremy Leaf, housing spokesperson for the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors has been advising homeowners on how to get the best from their homes – updating or redesigning your kitchen can add up to 5% to your home’s value!
It seems that adding a new kitchen is the most popular for those undertaking work to their homes and Jeremy Leaf advises on the best way to renovate the kitchen:
“Improvements to a kitchen generally add more value to a home than any other job. Homebuyers usually favour family-friendly kitchens where they can entertain friends and relax. If you cannot extend, consider linking the space with an adjacent room’.
“Consider installing rooflights in single storey rooms, or enlarging your existing windows. If the kitchen-diner leads on to a patio, install bi-fold doors and use similar flooring in both kitchen and outside terrace to create a seamless flow. Underfloor heating will free up walls that would otherwise be taken up by radiators. Relocate the washing machine to a utility area or cloakroom to create more space. Integrated, built-in units will streamline a small kitchen and give a spacious effect.”
“Choose fittings and decor that will appeal to a larger number of prospective buyers, rather than an alternative-style design. Buy worktops of the best quality you an afford as these will get the most wear. Simple units can look stunning with the addition of a granite, quartzite or Corian worktop.”
