ZONING A ROOM When working with clients who have impressive open spaces the brief often asks for more to be incorporated just than a place to cook, and rightly so. The kitchen becomes a space to dine, relax, chat, study and work, so it’s important the design reflects that. Zoning the room will achieve this. By zoning we mean that we break the room up into different areas for specific functions. Food prep, cooking and clearing up zones are fairly standard spaces. Other popular zones include dining, seating and drinks areas. With different parts of the room assigned distinct meanings the practicality of the space develops around how it will be used. 25
